Who are you?

Reporting to the Shop Lead, the incumbent provides mechanical and fabrication trades support services to applied research and development projects in the shop and in the field. The welder will work with the project management team to address and resolve any issues in a timely manner.

What will you do?

The following are the general duties of these positions but are not inclusive of all the detailed tasks that may be required. Duties may vary and some may not be applicable.

  • Provide support for projects: fabrication, machining, welding, sheet metal work, equipment repair and operation, jig building, carpentry, painting, machine assembly, boiler operations, and other project support
  • Assist with fabrication, design and development of prototype machines and test equipment including troubleshooting
  • Operation and repair of machinery in the shop and field
  • Providing trades guidance to support staff
  • Address and resolve any issues in a timely manner

What do you need to succeed?

  • Advanced knowledge of shop equipment use
  • General knowledge - blueprint and work instruction reading/interpretation
  • Agricultural machinery operation is desirable
  • At least 5 years experience with shop tools, equipment, and fabrication
  • Welding certificate
  • Red Seal is considered an asset
