Who are you?
Cloverdale Paint has an immediate opening for a full-time Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) Coordinator at our facility in Winnipeg, MB.
The QHSE Coordinator will be responsible for applying professional practices with respect to QHSE affairs while providing advice and recommendations to operations management regarding the above. This position requires ongoing research and training to build a thorough understanding of QHSE systems, legislation and standards, and application of the knowledge in a work setting with little or no supervision.

What will you do?
Health and Safety
- Supervise, plan, and coordinate with Regulatory; the administration of OH&S training to satisfy 'competent persons' under the Workplace Safety & Health Act and Regulations.
- Investigate all incidents, near misses, and spills to ensure all paperwork is completed in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures, including the initial filing of Workplace Safety & Insurance Forms with DMI and other agencies as required.
- Create and update existing forms, templates, procedures, checklists, etc. to ensure relevancy and effectiveness.
- Utilize root-cause analysis techniques to determine QHSE responsibilities.
- Monitor QHSE compliance by conducting regular workplace inspections and audits.
- Coordinate and attend workplace health and safety committee meetings, providing technical support to Co-Chairs and the committee as required and assist to resolve any issues.
- Coordinate and attend local Quality meetings, providing assistance and follow-up on non-conformances.
- Prepare and present the investigation of accidents, near misses, and spills to the Workplace Health and Safety Committee. Identify root causes and trends and recommend accident prevention methods.
- Coordinate all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regulatory requirements and ensure they are included in the SOP's for the site.
- Conduct operational risk analyses with respect to QHSE considerations.
- Provide input to pre-shift talks and coordinate the same topics for all shifts.
- Coordinate all activities and inspections required by regulatory and safety agencies as required.
- Respond to incidents or request assessments, and recommend remedial action and necessary follow-up.
- Conduct hazard assessments and safety orientations for contractors and visitors.
- Coordinate fire and evacuation drills, and update documentation as required.
- Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, risk assessments, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
- Verify effective implementation of HS&E standards and assist in development and implementation of solutions for safety performance improvement.
- Perform other duties, including off-site work, as assigned
Administration
- Maintain and update all hazardous materials records and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and communicate any risks associated with new raw materials to all shifts.
- Assist with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards in the area of QHSE.
- Assist with the evaluation of tender documents, contractors and consultant proposals, and make recommendations for approval.
- Complete/assist in completing all necessary reporting required pursuant to OH&S and Workplace Compensation Board (WCB) legislation and regulations.
- Collect and record in the appropriate database all QHSE documentation, including accident and training records.
- Work with the Operations Manager to assist in development and maintenance of the Quality Management system to the ISO9001: 2015. This includes, but is not limited to, documentation, hosting meetings and collecting data.
- Process metrics and data for presentation to the Quality and Health, Safety and Environmental teams.
- Support WCB claims and provide assistance in claim management, including administration of modified work program, participating in any inspections, and ensuring all claims and required documentation are completed accurately and submitted within suitable timeframes.
- Provide expert interpretation and proactively follow industry and regulatory changes to ensure provincial health and safety compliance.
What do you need to succeed?
- Undergraduate degree (BSc), or OH&S diploma preferred
- 2+ years of experience working in a safety position preferred.
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications preferred.
- Working experience with MS Office, including MS Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Detail oriented and disciplined with strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and adjust workload based on priorities in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities.
- Ability to work in a team environment and be self-directed.
- Highly developed communication skills (written and verbal).
- Must be willing to travel on an occasional basis.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis
- Ability to work on your feet all day, bending, leaning, crouching and walking.
